What is a meme generator?
A meme generator adds bold captions to an image, usually at the top and bottom, to create a shareable joke, reaction or message. Upload a photo, screenshot or illustration, enter your text and preview how the caption sits over the image. The finished meme downloads as a separate PNG while the original image remains unchanged.
How to make a meme
- Upload an image from your device.
- Enter a top caption, a bottom caption or both.
- Adjust the text-size slider to suit the image dimensions.
- Preview the wrapped caption and download the final PNG.
The editor uses a heavy white type style with a dark outline, a common meme treatment that remains readable against light and dark areas of an image. Long captions wrap automatically inside the image instead of running off the edge. You can also add a manual line break in either text box when you want a specific phrase to appear on a new line.
Tips for clearer meme captions
Keep a caption short enough to understand quickly. A larger text size is often best for a simple phrase, while smaller text can make room for a longer observation. Check the preview if the image already has important details near the top or bottom. Moving your wording to the other caption field, shortening it or using a line break can keep both the text and image readable.
Private meme creation
Your uploaded image and the caption text are processed entirely with the Canvas API in your browser. Nothing is sent to a server, and the source file is not modified. You can experiment with captions as many times as you want, then save only the final version you plan to share. No account or upload is required.
