How to add them
- Open Add Page Numbers to PDF and add your file.
- Choose the position (bottom-centre is standard), the format (plain numbers, "Page 1", or "Page 1 of 12"), the starting number and size.
- Download the numbered PDF.
When you need this
Merged and scanned documents usually have no page numbers — exactly when they matter most: legal bundles cited by page, printed handouts that get shuffled, and reviewer comments like "see page 14". If you assembled the file with Merge PDF, numbering it afterwards keeps everything referenceable.
Tips
- Use "Page 1 of 12" style when readers need to know the total length.
- Start numbering at a custom value when the document continues from another file.
